Burnley beat Hull to open up Championship title race, Boro draw

Only one point separates the top three teams in the Championship after Burnley's 1-0 victory over Hull left the title race wide open.

Steve Bruce's Tigers remain top of the table on goal difference but their six-match winning run in all competitions was ended when Sam Vokes broke the deadlock at Turf Moor.

Vokes netted a predatory winner in the 77th minute for his third goal in four games as Burnley extended their unbeaten league run to seven matches.

A win would have taken Middlesbrough top but they had to come from behind to rescue a 1-1 draw at home to Blackburn.

On-loan Sunderland midfielder Jordi Gomez returned to the north-east to give Rovers a 72nd-minute lead as new signing Jordan Rhodes looked on from the Boro bench.

The £9 million man was sent on five minutes later against his former club and had only been on the pitch two minutes when David Nugent headed in Emilio Nsue's right-wing cross.

Paul Clement remains under pressure as Derby's run without a win extended to seven league matches after Marcus Olsson scored an own goal on his debut in a 1-1 draw at Fulham.

The new signing from Blackburn turned a cross into his own net after only 17 minutes and he was indebted to Craig Bryson rescuing an equaliser with a superb volley just before half-time.

Gary Hooper spearheaded Sheffield Wednesday's revival with two goals in three minutes as a 2-1 win at Birmingham lifted them into the play-off places.

The Owls endured a miserable first half, losing two players to injury before Clayton Donaldson fired Blues in front, but Hooper took his tally to seven goals in the last six games with his decisive double.

Nelson Oliveira's goal on the hour deservedly stretched Nottingham Forest's run of Championship games without defeat to 13 matches after a 1-0 win at Leeds.

Leeds were well below their best as their sequence of six unbeaten home matches was ended when Oliveira turned in Eric Lichaj's cross.

At the bottom end of the table, new Bristol City manager Lee Johnson watched from the stands as the Robins claimed a vital 1-0 victory at fellow strugglers Charlton.

Johnson's move to Ashton Gate from Barnsley was confirmed before the match and City's day got even better when Lee Tomlin converted a 21st-minute penalty after he was pushed in the back by Johann Gudmundsson.

Kaiyne Woolery's last-gasp goal lifted Bolton off the bottom as they clinched a vital 2-1 victory at home to Rotherham.

Jay Spearing put Bolton ahead in just the second minute but the Millers hit back through Chris Burke on the stroke of half-time and looked the more likely winners until Woolery tapped in the first goal of his career.

Matt Phillips' 88th-minute goal gave QPR a 1-0 victory over Ipswich -- their first home win under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink -- while Alan Browne headed a stoppage-time winner as Preston came from behind to beat Huddersfield 2-1.

Nahki Wells prodded the Terriers in front in the 80th minute but it was quickly cancelled out by Joel Lynch's unfortunate own goal.

Cardiff and Wolves did little to boost their playoff hopes as they were held to goalless draws by MK Dons and Reading respectively.
