Derby see off Charlton, Middlesbrough beat Bolton

Jesse Lingard scored his first goal for Derby in a classy first-half display that secured a 2-0 win over Charlton to keep the Rams two points clear at the top of the Championship.

The on-loan Manchester United winger finished confidently after Jeff Hendrick had opened the scoring from a cross by former Charlton striker Darren Bent and although the visitors had more of the ball in the second half, Derby were good value for a victory that takes them five points clear of third place.

Middlesbrough kept up the pressure on Derby as they ground out a scratchy 1-0 victory over Bolton.

Albert Adomah's first-half strike was enough to secure the Teessiders their first win in three matches, and ensure they remained in an automatic promotion place despite their slight recent wobble.

Ipswich beat Birmingham 4-2 to move into third, ahead of Bournemouth, who take on ninth-placed Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Tyrone Mings opened the scoring and Freddie Sears scored twice to put Town in control at 3-1 and, though David Davis twice cut Birmingham's deficit to a single goal, Kevin Bru's late strike clinched the three points for the hosts.

Fifth-placed Norwich came from behind to win 2-1 at 10th-placed Blackburn, Cameron Jerome and Bradley Johnson on target for the visitors after Alex Baptiste's opener.

The in-form Odion Ighalo scored twice as Watford enjoyed a 3-0 win over Rotherham, Troy Deeney with the other goal, while Jon Toral's hat trick led Brentford to a 4-0 win over rock-bottom Blackpool. Andre Gray also scored while Blackpool had Charles Dunne sent off just before half-time.

Wolves beat Fulham 3-0, Bakary Sako's double adding to Danny Batth's opener, while the two Yorkshire teams rounding out the top half also won.

Sheffield Wednesday kept Millwall in the relegation zone with a 3-1 win. All four goals came in the second half with Lewis McGugan, Atdhe Nuhiu and Stevie May striking for Wednesday before Diego Fabbrini's late consolation.

Huddersfield won 3-0 against Reading with goals from Harry Bunn, Nahki Wells and Ishmael Miller.

Aron Gunnarsson scored the only goal as Cardiff beat relegation-threatened Wigan 1-0 as Brighton boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 success against improving Leeds, Sam Baldock and Inigo Calderon with the goals.
