Aston Villa to bid for Middlesbrough's Jordan Rhodes - sources

Jordan Rhodes has mad six Premier League appearances this season.

Aston Villa are preparing to firm up their interest in Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes with a bid for the player, sources close to the Championship club have told ESPN FC.

Rhodes, 26, has been a long-term target for Villa boss Steve Bruce, having tried to sign him while in charge of Hull, as he looks to add to his attacking options during this month's transfer window.

Villa have already enquired about taking the Scotland international on loan, but Middlesbrough would prefer to sell Rhodes and...

Tiago Ilori moves to Reading from Liverpool on three-and-a-half year deal

Jurgen Klopp feels his Liverpool side deserved a better result, but is still proud of the attitude he saw from his players.
Paul Mariner and Ross Dyer make their predictions for which teams will grab the top four spots in the Premier League.

Reading have completed the signing of defender Tiago Ilori from Liverpool on a contract until 2020 for an undisclosed fee.

Ilori, 23, struggled to make an impact at Liverpool following his arrival from Sporting Lisbon for an initial £3.5 million in 2013, making just three first-team appearances for the Reds.

A source told ESPN FC that a £3.75m fee was agreed between Liverpool and Reading, and the Championship club have now confirmed that the deal has gone through.

Rafael Benitez insists Newcastle owner is 'happy' with current transfer policy

Rafa Benitez and Newcastle suffered a season-opening defeat to Fulham.
Rafa Benitez's Newcastle are currently sitting first on the Championship table.

Rafael Benitez is confident Newcastle's bid for a return to the Premier League is safe in his hands despite owner Mike Ashley's return to the limelight.

Weekend headlines suggested Ashley had stepped in during recent days to ensure his long-standing policy of signing younger players with potential sell-on value, which has been relaxed since Benitez was parachuted in to Tyneside, is reinstated as the Spaniard attempts to build upon a solid first half of the season.

Benitez remains relaxed about a...

Ravel Morrison must seal Wigan loan by Jan. 27 to face Man United

Paul Mariner and Ross Dyer make their predictions for which teams will grab the top four spots in the Premier League.

Ravel Morrison has until the end of next week to earn the chance to face former club Manchester United by securing a loan move to Wigan Athletic from Lazio.

Morrison, 23, is currently training with Championship club Wigan after being told he has no future with Lazio.

Wigan manager Warren Joyce, previously Morrison's reserve team boss at United, has given the midfielder the opportunity to resurrect his career at the DW Stadium following his failure to make an impact in Serie A.

The former United...

Mike Dean assigned to Championship after multiple refereeing controversies

Slaven Bilic is relieved that the FA decided to overturn Sofiane Feghouli's red card, which he received against Man United.

Embattled Premier League referee Mike Dean has been assigned to oversee the Championship clash between Barnsley and Leeds on Saturday.

Dean has been the target of widespread criticism after a series of debatable decisions over the festive fixtures, and instead of refereeing a top-flight game this weekend he will spend a week in the second tier.

He sent off West Ham's Sofiane Feghouli against Manchester United, only for the red card to later be rescinded. That game also featured a...
