Norwich, Palace eliminated from Carabao Cup

Norwich City and Crystal Palace were both eliminated from the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, with the other six Premier League clubs in action all advancing from the second round.

The Canaries, who only returned to England's top flight this season, lost 1-0 to Crawley Town, while Colchester United beat Palace on penalties after their match finished in a 0-0 draw.

In the day's other matches, Aston Villa thrashed Crewe Alexandra 6-1, Southampton beat Fulham 1-0, Newport County lost 2-0 to West Ham, Brighton downed Bristol Rovers by a score of 2-1, Sheffield United got the better of Blackburn Rovers in a 2-1 scoreline and Watford eased past Coventry City 3-0.

The match between Grimsby Town and Macclesfield Town was abandoned due to torrential rain with a makeup date yet to be announced.

The second round will be completed on Wednesday before the draw for the next round of the Carabao Cup is held that night with top Premier League clubs entering into the draw.
