Chelsea's Tammy Abraham is Premier League quality - Aidy Bothroyd

England under-21 interim boss Aidy Boothroyd hailed Tammy Abraham's dream debut after he helped dismantle Bosnia 5-0.

The Bristol City striker, on loan from Chelsea, marked his full bow with two goals and has now netted 13 times in 15 games for club and country this season.

Abraham made his first under-21 appearance as a late substitute in Thursday's 1-0 win in Kazakhstan and Boothroyd, who has managed him at under-20 level, believes he has top-flight quality.

"I think he is well on the way to proving that," he said, after the win at Walsall on Tuesday. "I've had him a couple of years now and he has ability, he is proving his worth in the Championship and he is a typical young English player who is talented and has been given an opportunity at a club. We've got a lot more English players like that, you only have to look at today to see that.

"He is a good finisher, has a really good, enthusiastic, optimistic outlook on life. He wants to play every minute and is not only a goalscorer but he can score in different positions, with his head and his feet. He is a team player and puts a shift in and he knows that because he's been with me for a couple of years now.

"They [Abraham and Marcus Rashford] are different. Marcus can play down the middle or on the left or the right, while Tammy is more of an out and out centre forward. He's somebody else that has been given a chance and he's shown what he's all about. Sometimes that is what it's all about."

Abraham added to BT Sport: "I'm over the moon to get two goals. The boys deserved it today. Whatever team we put out is fantastic, we all want the same thing and want to achieve the best.''

England head to Poland next year aiming to avoid a repeat of Euro 2015 when they failed to get out of the group and, with Boothroyd's future as boss uncertain with Gareth Southgate taking charge of the seniors until the end of the year, he is focused on the immediate future.

He added: "I honestly don't know what's going to happen, it's about focusing on the here and now. The last time I came here, I got sent off as a player and now I'm back as interim coach.

"I hope he [Southgate] gets the bit of luck we all need and does well. It's good for anyone English who wants us to do well."
