Burnley's Michael Keane replaces Stoke's Glen Johnson in England squad

Burnley defender Michael Keane has been called up to the England squad as a replacement for Glen Johnson.

Johnson, 32, was a surprise inclusion in Gareth Southgate's squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.

However, the Stoke City right-back Johnson has been forced to withdraw from the national team setup through injury.

Keane, 23, has impressed in the Premier League for Burnley this season and has earned his first senior call-up for England.

The centre-back signed for Burnley from Manchester United and has since made 72 league appearances, scoring six goals.

On Monday, Raheem Sterling had to withdraw from the England squad through injury, with Southgate calling Andros Townsend up to replace him.

Southgate is in temporary charge of the Three Lions after former boss Sam Allardyce left having managed just one game.
