Manchester United's Marcus Rashford not in latest England under-21 squad

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has not been included in the latest England under-21 squad for their upcoming European U21 Championship qualifiers.

Rashford, 18, was in the previous squad and scored a hat trick as England beat their Norwegian counterparts 6-1.

His exclusion from the list to face Kazakhstan and Bosnia-Herzegovina could see him named in the senior squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.

Aidy Boothroyd will be in charge of the U21 team in place of Gareth Southgate, who is stepping in for England's next four matches following Sam Allardyce's departure this week.

Rashford, who is in contention for the 2016 Golden Boy award, has scored three goals in four Premier League appearances for Jose Mourinho's United this season.

Boothroyd said: "I've managed a lot of these players before with the U20s a couple of years ago, so I do know most of them.

"They're obviously both very important games and there are no easy matches in international football.

"I only found out I was taking the U21s late on Wednesday, so it's been a case of handing over the U20s to Paul [Williams] and the staff and now it's about preparing for Kazakhstan and getting the U21s ready."
