Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater is eyeing an England recall.
The 26-year-old has been tipped to be included in Sam Allardyce's first national squad to face Slovakia in their opening World Cup qualifier next month.
Leicester assistant manager Craig Shakespeare is now part of the national setup having been brought on board by Allardyce, who replaced Roy Hodgson in July.
Drinkwater was left out of England's final Euro 2016 squad in favour of Jack Wilshere, despite helping the Foxes to the Premier League title and the Arsenal man playing just 141 minutes last season, and he wants a return.
He said: "I'd love to be in it, but whether or not I get picked it's up to the staff there now. I'm not too sure if Craig Shakespeare being involved will help but if it doesn't I'll be having words!"
Drinkwater played in Leicester's 0-0 draw with Arsenal on Saturday as the defending champions search for their first win of the season.
His representatives are in talks over a new contract at the King Power Stadium after Drinkwater starred in their title-winning campaign last term.
Boss Claudio Ranieri confirmed they are close to a deal and Drinkwater is keen to see it resolved.
"I'm leaving it to them, I'm not getting involved and just trying to concentrate on my football and what happens out on the pitch," he said. "I want something done. When it's right it's right and I'll sign. I love the club."
The ex-Manchester United trainee formed an impressive partnership with N'Golo Kante last season but the France international joined Chelsea in the summer.
Nampalys Mendy started on Saturday but was replaced by Andy King after suffering an ankle injury. Nevertheless, Drinkwater believes the Foxes can cope without Kante.
"N'Golo is a big loss but we've brought in Mendy and Kingy's come in today and stepped in at the last minute," he said.
"We'll work it out ourselves. It's great for us that Riyad Mahrez is staying, he's a big player. Him, Vards [Jamie Vardy] and all of the boys putting pen to paper is good for the team."
