Bayern Munich to block Paul Clement role with England - reports

Sam Allardyce's hopes of appointing Paul Clement as England assistant manager have been dealt a blow after Bayern Munich blocked the Football Association's approach, according to reports.

Allardyce was hoping that Clement would join him as part of his backroom staff, and Bayern head coach Carlo Ancelotti was reportedly willing to allow his assistant to join up with England during international breaks.

However, the German champions want Clement to be fully focused on his role at the Allianz Arena, and so will not allow him to leave even under a part-time basis, as first reported in The Guardian and later reported by Sky Sports.

Clement occupied his first managerial role last season with Derby County, but was sacked in February, with the Rams just five points off the top of the Championship.

Following his dismissal, Clement helped England under-21 manager, Gareth Southgate, on an informal basis, before rejoining Ancelotti at the Allianz Arena following previous stints together at Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

Allardyce has already appointed former Bolton Wanderers colleague Sammy Lee to his staff, and will be keen to have an assistant in place in time for England's first World Cup qualifier away to Slovakia on Sept. 4.
