England midfielder Jordan Henderson ready to make Euro 2016 impact

Jordan Henderson has said he is ready to make a big impact at Euro 2016 after enduring the toughest club season of his career.

Henderson, 26, recovered from what looked to be a season-ending knee injury in April to take his place in Roy Hodgson's squad.

The Liverpool midfielder, who started the 0-0 draw against Slovakia, said: "This has been the toughest season of my career so far, just because of injury.

"It has been difficult mentally, and physically, so even to be here is an honour for me.

"I always felt if I kept working hard and training hard I'd get an opportunity. It came, and hopefully the manager was happy with the contribution I made.

"It's down to the manager and what team he feels he needs to win the game, but I feel ready, I feel good."

The Liverpool captain said England, who won one and drew two of their group games to finish second, needed to find a more ruthless cutting edge.

"We're creating chances -- we just need to finish teams off," he added. "We need to make sure that in the games coming up we finish teams off properly."

Meanwhile, Liverpool teammate Nathaniel Clyne hopes to have given Hodgson a headache after impressively replacing in-form Kyle Walker against Slovakia, one of six England changes.

"I was pleased with my performance," Clyne said. "The manager made changes and we all came in and done well.

"We dominated the game from start to finish. It was a bit frustrating that we didn't get the goal.

"It's good that everyone is fighting for positions -- it makes the team healthy, makes everyone push harder."
