Alan Shearer has urged Harry Kane to ask to be removed from England corner-taking duty and said he does not understand why the striker is taking them.
In the 1-1 draw with Russia on Saturday, Kane took as many corners -- seven -- as he did for his club, Tottenham Hotspur, in the whole of last season.
England boss Roy Hodgson has said Kane will continue to take set pieces, claiming he has the "best delivery" in the squad.
But former England striker Shearer, writing in his column in The Sun, said the situation was "like asking Lewis Hamilton to change his own tyres."
He wrote: "Kane is well within his rights to pull Roy to one side in training this week and say: 'I don't think I should be taking corners -- I want to be in the box getting on the end of them.'
"He is now senior enough to give his opinion. That's what I would have done if a manager had asked me to take the corners when I was playing.
"Why can't Wayne Rooney or Adam Lallana take them? Let's be honest, if you are a midfielder playing for England and you have not got the ability to take a corner, you should not be on the pitch.
"I cannot for the life of me understand the thinking behind it. It is just bizarre, and it is something Roy must address ahead of the Wales game."
Meanwhile, former Tottenham and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas has said Hodgson must move Dele Alli closer to Spurs teammate Kane in Thursday's vital second group game against Wales.
"Dele Alli was not utilised in his most effective position [against Russia] and Harry Kane put in his worst display in an England shirt," he wrote in his column for Yahoo!.
"Alli was playing too deep to be able to help Kane out in the higher part of the pitch. Kane didn't play well, but he wasn't helped by the fact that he didn't have a partner to work with.
"In the 4-2-3-1 formation, Kane needs someone to work off. That would normally be Alli, but against Russia the duo were too far apart for that to happen.
"Make no bones about it, Kane was poor. In fact it's as bad as I've seen him play all season. And if he's not playing well, England are not going to score goals.
"Alli and Kane's partnership can be England's most dangerous weapon in France, but Hodgson needs to play to their strengths to get the best out of them."
