Manchester United's Marcus Rashford could get England U21 call - source

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is not in consideration for Euro 2016, but could be elevated to the national under-21 set-up soon, a source close to the England camp told ESPN FC.

Rashford, 18, has scored six goals in 11 appearances since suddenly breaking into the United side in February and made his debut for the England U20s in a 2-1 defeat against Canada U20s on March 27.

However, representatives of the club and England have already warned against fast-tracking him. United academy manager Nicky Butt said that it could "backfire on everybody," and England U21 manager Gareth Southgate added that "there can be a fallout" from pushing the player up too soon.

Rashford's readiness for promotion within the national set-up has been debated after the Manchester United striker scored again on Wednesday night. The striker's fine finish broke the deadlock against West Ham United in the FA Cup quarterfinal replay at Upton Park and laid the foundations for a 2-1 win.

His promotion to the England U21s is by no means guaranteed and is dependent on several factors, but a source told ESPN FC that Rashford could make the step up by the time the 2017 UEFA Under 21 Championship qualifier with Norway arrives in September.
