Wayne Rooney, Danny Ings and Jonjo Shelvey miss England training

Wayne Rooney faces a fitness race to play for England against Estonia on Friday after sitting out training on Tuesday.

Danny Ings, who received his first call-up this month, and midfielder Jonjo Shelvey also did not train.

The FA reported that all three players suffered knocks while playing for their Premier League clubs last weekend, though Manchester United's Rooney played all 90 minutes in a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

Ings played 76 minutes for Liverpool while Shelvey played 86 for Swansea, but neither substitution seemed to be because of a specific injury.

The three players will be monitored by England's medical team ahead of Friday's European qualifier.

Rooney is set to be presented with a golden boot by Sir Bobby Charlton ahead the game to mark his international goal scoring achievements.

The England captain surpassed Charlton's 45-year record when he scored his 50th international goal in September's victory over Switzerland.

Also on Tuesday, England announced that John Stones had to pull out of the squad after failing to recover from a recent knee injury, with Tottenham's Kyle Walker and Andros Townsend replacing him.

Roy Hodgson's men, who have already qualified and will finish top of Group E, follow up the game at Wembley with a trip to Lithuania next Monday.
