Jack Grealish opts to play for England rather than Republic of Ireland

Aston Villa have announced that Jack Grealish has opted to represent England at senior international level rather than Republic of Ireland.

Grealish, who was born in Solihull but qualifies for Republic of Ireland as his grandparents were born there, rejected a call-up to Martin O'Neill's squad in June as he said he needed time to decide which country to play for.

England manager Roy Hodgson called on the 20-year-old to make a decision on his international future earlier this month, and Villa confirmed on Monday that the midfielder has now done just that.

Grealish, who represented Republic of Ireland at under-21 level, took to Twitter shortly after Villa's announcement to explain his decision.

Grealish could now be called up to Hodgson's next England squad for the games against Estonia and Lithuania in October, with the Three Lions having already secured qualification for Euro 2016.
