Roy Hodgson may have to abandon his plans for England to cycle to training at Euro 2016 because of health and safety concerns. Traffic congestion in Rio de Janeiro caused Hodgson unwanted problems at the World Cup last year. Sometimes it took the England manager and his squad 45 minutes to complete the short journey from Sao Conrado beach to their Urca military base and Hodgson wants to give his men a much easier ride at the European Championship in France next year. The 67-year-old wants a base where his players can cycle to training, as he did on a European venture with Liverpool. Hodgson has found a perfect location to do that during the Euros, but safety concerns may mean he has to mothball the idea of England pedalling to work. "That [cycling to training] was one of the things we were looking for," the England manager said. "The place we have actually found would give us that opportunity... "It would involve cycling on the road for a small amount of time. For health and safety reasons, I have been told, it is not possible." The Football Association started looking at potential bases last September after England claimed the first of four straight qualifying victories. The south of France and Paris have both been mentioned as possible locations, but Hodgson has been told he cannot reveal any details about where England want to stay. "We have highlighted and sent our first choice into UEFA," Hodgson said. "It has to be ratified, of course, and we are still open in case even better comes up. "But we have got a place we have asked UEFA to keep for us and that has been saved for us at the moment."
