England set to play international friendly against Italy in March

The Football Association has announced that England will face Italy in a friendly on March 31, 2015.

The Azzurri will host Roy Hodgson's side at a venue to be confirmed at a later date, while a return fixture will also be staged at Wembley during the qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup.

"Italy have always provided stern opposition for England and these two fixtures will be no different," Hodgson told the FA's official website.

"Italian teams are always set up very well and they have a great history of producing world-class footballers. It will give us great preparation leading into major international tournaments.

"After managing in Italy with Inter Milan, it will be a fantastic experience for me personally to go back to Italy and manage England."

England have faced Italy 25 times in total, winning eight games, while Italy have been victorious on 10 occasions, including at this summer's World Cup when they ran out 2-1 winners in Brazil.
