Eintracht Frankfurt's Marco Russ given all-clear after cancer treatment

Eintracht Frankfurt defender Marco Russ has been given the all-clear and can start rehab after being diagnosed with testicular cancer in May.

"Marco is healthy. Doctors have given him the permission to pursue his trade," Eintracht Frankfurt coach Niko Kovac told reporters on Thursday.

Russ, 31, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in late May, and underwent surgery. Three months following his diagnosis, the club captain made a first public appearance during Frankfurt's season opener against Celta Vigo in mid-August.

"In January, I want to take part in the winter training camp in Abu Dhabi," Russ said during the event, and he remains on course to return to the Frankfurt squad this season.

Kovac added on Thursday: "We are delighted about the news. Marco was here today and delivered the message. He will now try and catch up as soon as possible."

The defender is set to undergo his rehab in Frankfurt, and Kovac hopes that he will resume training during the winter training camp.
