Eintracht Frankfurt's Timothy Chandler could miss United States' training camp ahead of the 2016 Copa Centenario as his club could be participating in the relegation playoffs in Germany. Despite only a handful of appearances for Bundesliga side Frankfurt this season, Chandler, 26, was named on the 40-man preliminary roster for next month's Copa America by U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann last week. The list of players has to be cut to 23 by May 20, and United States will begin their preparation on May 16. The right-back had struggled for form and fitness under the club's former coach Armin Veh, but was promoted back to the starting XI by Niko Kovac, who took charge of Frankfurt in early March 2016. Under Kovac, Frankfurt have returned to winning ways just in time to have a realistic chance of securing top-flight football on the final matchday of the season. A 1-0 victory over runners-up Borussia Dortmund, with Chandler coming off the bench following muscular problems, took Frankfurt to a place above the drop zone, and on Saturday they travel to Werder Bremen. Their opponents on Saturday are one point behind Eintracht and currently sit in 16th. That position would mean playing an extra two matches against third-placed Bundesliga II club Nurnberg for the final berth in Bundesliga next season. Should Frankfurt lose to Bremen, they will drop to 16th and go into the playoffs to be played over two legs on May 19 and May 23. It has not been decided yet whether Chandler will travel to the U.S. training camp or remain at Frankfurt as they battle to stay in the top flight. Chandler, however, hopes to help Frankfurt should they have to play two more matches before the summer break. He told Bild: "Of course, I want to stay here if we were to go into the playoffs."
