Maradona back at helm of Mexican club Dorados following health scare

Diego Maradona has returned to Mexico to coach second division side Dorados, after missing the first few weeks of the Ascenso MX 2019 Clausura season partly due to a health scare.

The 53-year-old Argentine legend arrived in Mexico on Friday, confirmed Dorados, having being released from hospital in his home country on Jan. 13, following an operation for stomach bleeding.

There was initially some doubt about whether Maradona would be returning to Dorados, but it was confirmed by his lawyer Matias Morla on Jan. 4 that he would be back for a second season in Mexico, although his assistant Luis Islas is not with him.

Dorados have only played one league game in Maradona's absence, compared to the three scheduled, due to the poor state of the pitch at Estadio Banorte.

The club plays away at Potros UAEM on Saturday, with Maradona expected to meet up with the team in Mexico City, before traveling to Toluca for the game.

Last season, Maradona's arrival in September improved the team's form dramatically, with Dorados reaching the Ascenso MX final, before losing out to Atletico San Luis.
