Frank Lampard agrees Derby County manager deal in principle - sources

Former Chelsea star Frank Lampard is poised to become manager of Derby County, sources close to the ex-midfielder have told ESPN FC.

Sources told ESPN FC last week Lampard was the leading candidate for the Derby job after holding talks with the club, and he confirmed over the weekend he had spoken to the Championship club about replacing Gary Rowett following his departure to Stoke City.

Sources said those talks have been positive and that Lampard has agreed a deal in principle to take over at Derby in what would be his first managerial role.

The 39-year-old has not made any secret of his desire to move into management since hanging up his boots in February 2017.

The former England international linked with several management roles over the past few months, including the jobs at Oxford United and Ipswich Town, but it appears Derby have convinced Lampard to take charge at Pride Park Stadium.

Lampard has seen former England teammate Steven Gerrard move into management with Rangers this summer and the former Chelsea hero is now ready to follow suit by taking over at Derby.
