Frank Lampard in frame for Derby County manager role - sources

Former England and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is in the frame the manager's job at Derby County, sources close to the former player have told ESPN FC.

Derby are looking for a new manager after Gary Rowett left the club earlier this week to take over at Stoke City.

Derby, who lost in the Championship playoff semifinals to Fulham, are drawing up a shortlist of candidates to take over from Rowett and Lampard figures highly on their wanted list.

Lampard is keen to move into management and was strongly linked with the Ipswich Town job earlier this month after reportedly having two interviews with the Suffolk club.

Lampard has seen former England teammate Steven Gerrard move into management with Rangers this summer and the former Chelsea hero could follow suit by landing a manager's job.

The 39-year-old retired from playing in February 2017 and has been taking his coaching badges as he looked to pursue his career in management.

Lampard has received several offers since hanging up his boots, but sources said the Derby job is something that would appeal to him.
