Pepe Mel sacked as Deportivo La Coruna boss amid La Liga struggles

Deportivo La Coruna have announced that Pepe Mel has been fired as coach.

Deportivo said Cristobal Parralo has been promoted from coaching their reserve team and will manage its first team until the end of the season.

The struggling La Liga side lost 2-1 to recently promoted Girona at home on Monday.

They are in 16th place, two spots and two points above the relegation zone. They have won just two of nine games this season.

Mel has coached several Spanish sides, most recently Real Betis, and had a brief stint at Premier League club West Bromwich Albion in 2014.
