Gaizka Garitano succeeds Victor as Deportivo La Coruna coach

Gaizka Garitano has been appointed as coach of Deportivo La Coruna, the club have announced on their website.

The 40-year-old succeeds Victor, who was sacked last month after one season in charge.

He will be assisted by Patxi Ferreira and Jose Luis Ribera, who were part of Depor's backroom staff between 2007 and 2011. Ribera also played for the club between 1991 and 1996.

Garitano had three seasons as coach of Eibar from 2012 to 2015, leading them to back-to-back promotions and into the top flight for the first time in their history.

He was then appointed coach of Real Valladolid but lasted only 10 matches at the helm.

Less than 10 minutes before announcing Garitano's appointment, Depor revealed the signing of Bruno Gama from Ukrainian side Dnipro for a second spell at the club.

The Portuguese winger played for Depor from 2011 to 2013, scoring 13 goals in 68 games. He will return on a free transfer subject to a medical.
