D.C. United's Luke Mishu retires after just two seasons

WASHINGTON -- Luke Mishu has retired from D.C. United after two seasons.

Mishu told The Washington Post he was retiring from soccer to pursue business opportunities, citing that he had to be "realistic'' given his salary in Major League Soccer. As an undrafted reserve, Mishu was making $62,500.

The 25-year-old Mishu told The Post: "I felt like I could play until I was 30-whatever, but I didn't want to leave the league needing to get an entry-level job.''

He appeared in seven games this season, starting five.

Mishu, from Knoxville, Tennessee, played at Notre Dame.
