Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew praises Wilfried Zaha after Watford win

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew praised his wide players after his side moved up to sixth in the Premier League with a 1-0 win at Watford.

The decisive moment of an even game arrived after 71 minutes, when Wilfried Zaha was brought down just inside the area and Yohan Cabaye fired the penalty high into the net.

Pardew told the BBC: "The wide guys made the breakthough and it was actually Wilfried Zaha, a substitute, that did that.

"I have three great options but only two can play. It was nice that Wilf had a good reaction -- we trust him.

"The penalty was a very good decision. The ball was just outside the box but the challenge was inside. It was dispatched by Yohan Cabaye -- although Dwight Gayle was meant to be taking it, so that surprised me.

"But Cabaye's got the experience and confidence to do it at any level."

Earlier this week, Pardew said he believed Zaha's unsuccessful spell at Manchester United had set the player's career back.

Much was expected of Zaha when, at 20, he made an €11.75 million move from Palace to Old Trafford in January 2013. But he fell out of favour and spent time on loan in Cardiff and Palace before the latter brought him back for €3.8 million in February 2015.

"Sometimes I think these big clubs take players too early and they're literally taking talent without really consideration to how it's going to work in the team," the Palace boss said on Friday.

"You've taken a very important year out of someone's career."
