Mile Jedinak injured, could miss Crystal Palace match versus Chelsea

Mile Jedinak could miss Crystal Palace's Premier League clash with Chelsea with a hamstring problem.

The Australian midfielder was forced out of Palace's 4-1 extra-time victory over Shrewsbury Town in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

Palace's reward for beating Shrewsbury is a home tie against Charlton in the third round.

Eagles boss Alan Pardew admitted Jedinak may struggle to be fit to face Chelsea in the teams' Premier League match at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

"I'm a little bit worried about the skipper, he might have done a hamstring, but we'll have to wait and see,'' Pardew said. "Dwight Gayle came off just as a precaution because he was cramping up, and Wilfried Zaha the same. So those two will be okay for the weekend.''

Matt Tootle handed Shrewsbury a deserved first-half lead, before Gayle levelled from the penalty spot. Palace laboured in a goalless second-half, before Glenn Murray's penalty sparked an extra-time deluge.

Chung-yong Lee rolled home a third before Zaha nodded in to close the deal. Patrick Bamford struggled and was replaced by Murray, with Pardew admitting the on-loan Chelsea forward is still finding his feet with the Eagles.

"I didn't think he had his best night, Patrick, but he's a good player,'' said Pardew. "He's finding the level here is a little bit higher than Middlesbrough, to get into that team.

"And when you're not playing week in, week out like he was at Middlesbrough, it's hard for young players. I felt a little bit sorry for him tonight, he wasn't at his best.''

Shrewsbury boss Micky Mellon hailed his players' resolve for holding their Premier League hosts to 1-1 at full-time.

"The way we passed it and tried to get good control of the game I thought was fantastic,'' Mellon said. "In the end some unbelievable quality told, and we looked like the team that had played six games in two weeks.

"I must admit I wouldn't have wanted to go to extra time. It's been a tough demand on us, but I couldn't be prouder of the way they represented the football club and the way they performed.

"I think they were fresher than us at the end, yeah.

"I'm not taking away anything from Palace though, they've got some great players with some great quality. They came through in the end and we do nothing but wish Crystal Palace well in the next round.''
