Crystal Palace have launched an audacious bid to sign Paris Saint-Germain's midfielder Yohan Cabaye, sources have told ESPN FC.
Cabaye, who left Newcastle in January 2014, has been linked with a move back to the Premier League in recent months as he has struggled to make his mark at PSG since his move to the French capital.
The 29-year-old could be persuaded to link up with Alan Pardew again as the current Palace boss enjoyed a good working relationship with him in their time together at Newcastle.
Pardew believes a marquee signing would realign the ambitions of the club in a summer when he is keen to compete for top talent.
"We want to compete with teams like Newcastle, Aston Villa, Everton and maybe even Spurs in the transfer market this summer," Pardew told ESPN FC last month.
"While we cannot compete with some of those clubs in terms of budgets, we can look to attract the kind of players they are also in the market for. If we could add that kind of quality of player to this current group, then we have a chance to push on."
It remains to be seen whether Cabaye would be open to a move to Palace, but he did confirm last month that he is considering his future after he struggled to get a regular starting berth in Laurent Blanc's PSG lineup.
Cabaye's eagerness to hang on to his place in the France side ahead of next summer's European Championship finals is fuelling the uncertainty over his future, as he stated last month.
"It's a peculiar moment in my career. I have never experienced this," Cabaye told Canal+. "I have to accept it but also try to change it. It's super important for me, I want to play at the Euro. I have to speak to the national team coach about my future and to my representatives to see what is best for me."
Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Cabaye, after the north London club failed in an initial bid to sign the midfielder in the final weeks of the summer transfer window of 2013.
