Crystal Palace's Alan Pardew shouts for penalty after loss

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew focused on what he felt was a missed penalty decision after his side lost to Southampton 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Pardew claimed Martin Atkinson, refereeing his first match since the controversial 1-1 draw between Chelsea and Burnley, should have awarded them a penalty for a foul on Yannick Bolasie.

Atkinson was heavily criticised by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who highlighted "four moments" in the Feb. 21 match that he felt influenced the result of the game.

Pardew recognised Atkinson's situation before mentioning the penalty, saying: "Obviously, the last game he was under a lot of pressure, but I think that was a penalty tonight.

"I just feel it was a penalty and when the centre-half has been as aggressive as Jose Fonte was tonight, he should give it.

"But, you know, we've been harshly treated I think by the officials in the last few games and sometimes you get a run like that."

Pardew's comments surprised those in the news conference and angered Southampton counterpart Ronald Koeman.

"No, it is so easy if you lose a game to tell that kind of story about referees," the Dutchman said. "I think the referee was not involved in the final result -- we scored and they didn't score and I know because I know that feeling.

"I think it is too easy and I think too many people are always talking about referees. I don't like that."

Pardew was also upset over the punishment of captain Mile Jedinak, who was retrospectively banned for four matches.

Video footage showed the 30-year-old to have elbowed West Ham striker Diafra Sakho towards the end of the Eagles' 3-1 win at Upton Park on Saturday. Jedinak was charged with violent conduct by the Football Association -- a decision which irked manager Pardew, although the Australia international accepted it.

The midfielder missed the Eagles' late 1-0 defeat at Southampton as a result and will also sit out the upcoming Premier League matches against QPR, Stoke and Manchester City.

"Well, you kind of know as a manager that [given] the way it was sort of damned on TV that something was going to happen and that's where we are," Pardew said. "We haven't appealed so we will take the decision, but we want some consistency in it.

"I could name three or four incidents this year where Crystal Palace should have had a player sent off against them retrospectively.

"But it wasn't highlighted by the media and therefore it went under the radar, so to speak. This one didn't."

Asked another question on the subject, Pardew retorted: "I don't want to go any further. I've said my point on that."
