Tim Sherwood interested in Crystal Palace vacancy - sources

Tim Sherwood has emerged as the early frontrunner to take over as Crystal Palace manager, with sources telling ESPN FC he would be interested in the job.

A number of bookmakers, including bet365, have made Sherwood the favourite to take over from Neil Warnock, who was sacked on Saturday morning after he struggled to lift Palace in his 17-game spell in charge that concluded with a 3-1 home defeat against Southampton on Boxing Day.

Former Tottenham boss Sherwood would be keen on a fresh approach from Palace, having been interviewed for the post in the summer before Warnock's appointment.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Palace co-chairman Steve Parish confirmed the club are eager to bring in Warnock's successor as soon as possible.

"It's pretty simple really, we just need to get some results," Parish told talksSPORT. "Hopefully we'll get a reaction from everyone.

"As for a new manager, we just want to get one as soon as possible really. So speculate away, we'll leave that up to you guys [in the media]."

Former Palace boss Tony Pulis, who left the club just before the start of the season, is being linked with a return to his former job, while ex-Palace defender and the current coach of Australian A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers Tony Popovic is another being mentioned as a contender.
