Spaniard Paco Jemez named Cruz Azul coach in Liga MX

Spaniard Paco Jemez has been confirmed as the new head coach of Liga MX club Cruz Azul, the institution announced on its website on Monday.

Jemez has previously managed Rayo Vallecano and Granada in the La Liga and will become La Maquina's first Spanish coach. The 46-year-old wasn't able to take a job in Spain this season after he was let go by Granada due to a poor start to the current season.

"I can't coach in Spain this year, so it's time to go abroad," Jemez told Marca over the weekend. "Staying still all year wasn't something that was in my head."

Cruz Azul is considered one of Mexico's "big four" clubs, but is without a league title since 1997. The Mexico City club is in need of a lift, having finished the current Apertura 2016 season down in 14th position, after winning just four of 17 games.
