Luka Modric has posted a heartfelt message of thanks to the Croatia fans following the 1-0 extra time defeat to Portugal on Saturday.
Croatia conceded the only goal of the game deep in added time against Portugal, ending the team's European Championship campaign in cruel circumstances.
And on Monday, Modric posted a message of thanks to the country's supporters on Instagram.
"You afforded to us the fan support that we will remember for a lifetime," Modric said. "You have given us a sense of togetherness, belonging and pride of playing for Croatia than words can't describe.

"I am infinitely sad that we didn't make you happy with our result.
"I hope your fantastic support and togetherness will again be our strength, we will give our best in the next cycle, too, so as to thank you with our game, but with result as well, for being by our side.
"Until then, people, sincerely THANK YOU.
The Croatia fans were involved in a number of disciplinary incidents during Euro 2016, with an undercurrent of dissatisfaction from the fans towards the Croatian Football Federation (CFF) following the team throughout qualifying and into the tournament itself.
Modric has reportedly had disagreements in the past with CFF president Davor Suker and administrator Zdravko Mamic.
