Dejan Lovren criticised by Croatia coach Cacic, Euro 2016 place in doubt

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren's international future may be in doubt after Croatia's head coach Ante Cacic slammed the player for ending his warm-up routine abruptly during Saturday's 1-1 draw against Hungary.

A 29th minute goal from Mario Mandzukic gave Croatia the lead but Balazs Dzsudzsak scored for Hungary in the second half to see both sides with a share of the spoils.

Lovren, who did not start the game, was sent to warm-up along with the rest of the reserves, but made the decision to cut short his warm-up routine and return to his seat on the bench.

The defiant move incurred the wrath of Cacic, who has made it clear that the Liverpool defender has to abide by the team rules like the rest of his teammates.

"He did not refuse to get on the pitch... because no one invited him to come on," Cacic told Sportske Novosti.

"But do you think it is up to Lovren or any other player to decide how long will he warm up? Or is it [the] coach's decision?

Lovren's antics on the bench in Budapest now puts his place in the team for the upcoming European Championships in danger, with Cacic refusing to commit if he will be taking the former Southampton centre-back to the tournament.

"Also, I didn't specifically tell him to warm up. I told all the benched players because it was cold in Budapest. So all of them went to warm up." he added.

"I will not tolerate such behavior because no one is more important than the team. Lovren made [a] step backward, away from our squad.

"We didn't talk after the match, we will see what is going to happen, but I will not tolerate such acts and he made [a] wrong move."

Croatia are in Group D alongside defending champions Spain, Turkey and the Czech Republic.
