Cruzeiro net big win over River Plate in Libertadores but fail to impress

The first legs of the quarterfinals in the Copa Libertadores, South America's Champions League, all ended in single goal victories. But there is no doubt as to who was the big winner of the week.

There were 1-0 wins for Emelec of Ecuador over Tigres of Mexico, Santa Fe of Colombia over Internacional of Brazil and for Guarani of Paraguay over Racing of Argentina. CONMEBOL rejects Boca Juniors' Copa Libertadores appeal

The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) on Tuesday rejected the appeal by Boca Juniors and upheld the initial sanctions against the Argentine club over the interruption of the Copa Libertadores match against Argentine rival River Plate last week.

"We have resolved to reject the appeal of Club Atletico Boca Juniors over the disciplinary court's decision of 16 May 2015. As a result, we confirm all the points of the initial decision," CONMEBOL said via news release and via Twitter.
