Copa Argentina tie between Racing and Mitre postponed after clashes

The Copa Argentina match between Racing and Mitre, scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed by police for "strict security reasons."

The Agency for the Prevention of Violence in Sport (Aprevide) in Buenos Aires Province said in a letter that the match at Quilmes stadium had to be delayed.

It followed violent scenes on Monday when rival members of Racing's "Barra Brava" ultras group fought gun battles near their home stadium.

Sport Club Pacifico defender Federico Allende has caused an uproar in Argentina after revealing that he used a needle to poke the strikers of top-division club Estudiantes during Sunday's cup game.

Pacifico, who play in Argentina's fourth tier, pulled off a major upset when they won 3-2 in Sunday's round-of-32 Copa Argentina game.

Boca Juniors' Carlos Tevez threatens to retire at season end

Boca Juniors striker Carlos Tevez has admitted that he is considering retirement at the end of the season.

Argentina referees protest lack of pay with work stoppage - union chief

The Argentina officials union claim that federation woes have meant they are not being paid.

Argentina officials union director Guillermo Marconi has said the league referees have not been paid by the Argentina Football Federation and would go on a 48-hour strike.

Argentina federation president Luis Segura -- a member of FIFA's ruling council -- was charged last month with fraud related to TV broadcasting rights and is currently out of power after FIFA named a "normalisation committee" to run daily affairs. Elections must be organised by July 2017.
