Dani Alves, DF, Barcelona & Brazil: #CopaRank: No. 16

Welcome to #CopaRank, a weeklong look at the top 25 players we expect to see at the Copa America Centenario. Over 50 ESPN FC experts and writers from around the globe voted, and we're rolling out the results right up to opening day, U.S. vs. Colombia, on Friday.

Why is Dani Alves in the top 25?

Since moving to Barcelona in 2008, Alves has been regularly mentioned among the best full-backs in the world. Excellent on the ball and pushing into the attack, the Brazilian fit perfectly into one of the best teams football has ever seen during the height of Pep Guardiola's "tiki taka" period in Catalonia. Alves wasn't always known for the quality of his defensive play, but that has improved markedly over the seasons, and his contributions remained an important part of the team as a new era dawned for Barca. His passing ability is what sets him apart, and rather than the typical crossing full-back, Alves is adept at keeping the ball on the ground and finding teammates in space.

What the experts say about Alves:

"Over the last few weeks, as a teammate, he has shown that he's one of the best -- if not the best -- right-backs in the history of the club." -Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.

"He is the best full-back in the world. It is very difficult nowadays to find someone else like him." -Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.

Career highlight:

Alves was exceptional during the 2010-11 season, when Barcelona was nearly unstoppable. The club went on to win the Spanish league and the Champions League, with Alves contributing an eye-watering 18 assists between the two competitions.

Stat of the season:

Alves added seven assists in 2015-16 to bring his La Liga career total to 100.

What's next for Alves after the Copa America Centenario?

At 33, Alves is now ripe for speculation about the next phase of his career. Over the past few months, reports have surfaced that have only confused the issue, with some claiming he would stay, while others suggest a move to China or another nouveau riche league.
