Argentina's Pablo Zabaleta to miss Copa America - source

Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta will miss the Copa America with Argentina to have surgery on an ankle injury, a club source has told ESPN FC.

Zabaleta ‎has been sidelined during the final few weeks of the season after revealing he had damaged his calf muscle.

A source has now told ESPN FC that the 31-year-old has been ruled out of this summer's Copa America in the United States to have an operation on his ankle.

It has been a frustrating season for Zabaleta, who has ‎made just 22 appearances for City this season, having fallen behind French defender Bacary Sagna in the pecking order

The full-back, who is entering the final year of his contract, has also missed large parts of the season with knee injuries before the calf issue forced him to miss City's final two final Premier League game.

Zabaleta has been linked with a possible move in the summer ahead of the arrival of new boss Pep Guardiola, with Inter Milan and Juventus reportedly interested in taking him to Italy.
