Belgium might have Vincent Kompany as their skipper, but his younger brother Francois says he wants to play for the Democratic Republic of Congo -- the country where the siblings' father hails from.
In contrast to his brother, who has visited the DRC on social projects and received a resounding welcome, the younger Kompany has never been to the Central African nation.
However, the 27-year-old did represent a Congolese youth team in a training match at Beveren in Belgium.
He's now hoping he might get a call-up for the Leopards' African Nations Cup qualifier against neighbours Congo-Brazzaville next month.
Asked for his reaction, their father Pierre Kompany told journalists: "For me it doesn't matter which country Francois plays for. Vincent never asked me for permission to play for Belgium. I remain a proud father of both of them."
This season, the younger Kompany, a left full-back, has helped Roeselare into the playoffs for promotion to the top flight in Belgium, while Vincent recently returned to action after a litany of injuries and is playing again for Manchester City after missing Belgium's European Championship campaign in 2016.
