Matt Besler and Geoff Cameron are starting in central defense for the United States in the CONCACAF CUP playoff against Mexico on Saturday night
U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann picked a veteran-laden lineup featuring nine players who also started in the Americans' World Cup opener against Ghana last year.
The only changes were goalkeeper Brad Guzan in place of Tim Howard and midfielder Gyasi Zardes instead of Alejandro Bedoya, who is ill.
"Ale's an experienced guy, so it's a huge blow," Zardes said before the lineups were announced. "At the same time there are other guys on this roster that are capable of filling in. We prepare for moments like this -- unpredictable moments."
Besler and Cameron were joined by right-back Fabian Johnson and left-back DaMarcus Beasley, Klinsmann's first-choice back four at the World Cup.
Kyle Beckerman and Jermaine Jones were in the midfield with captain Michael Bradley and Zardes. Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey were up front.
Mexico countered with Rafa Marquez in a holding midfield role and an attack-minded XI with Raul Jimenez, Chicharito and Oribe Peralta up front.
Moises Munoz will start in goal for Mexico, with Diego Reyes and Hector Moreno the center-backs, and Miguel Layun and Paul Aguilar as the full-backs.
That starting XI would appear to be a 4-3-3 formation, which would represent a significant departure from the 5-3-2 the team played in last month's 2-2 draw with Argentina.
The winner of Saturday's game earns a berth in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia.
