FC Dallas, Pumas both earn runaway wins to advance in CCL

FC Dallas thrashed Suchitepequez 5-2 in its final CONCACAF Champions League group stage match to advance to the knockout rounds of the region's top continental club championship.

Needing a win, the hosts started perfectly as a Tesho Akindele own goal had Suchitepequez leading 1-0 after five minutes. Wilson Morales scored at the 22-minute mark to double the lead.

However, it was all Dallas after that, as goals from Carlos Gruezo, Matt Hedges, Atiba Harris, Carlos Liazarazo and an own goal from Suchitepequez's Miguel Gonzalez had the Major League Soccer outfit up 5-2 by the final whistle to win Group H.

Another team needing a win to advance was Pumas, and the Liga MX side had it in spades as they beat W Connection FC 8-1 in Mexico City.

Fidel Martinez, Jesus Gallardo and Eduardo Herrera Aguirre all scored two goal in the runaway win that put Pumas atop Group A and into the knockout rounds.

The two results finalize the group stage of the CCL, with the first round of two-legged ties beginning on Feb. 21, 2017. The match-ups are:
