Vancouver Whitecaps eliminate SKC from CCL; Pachuca wins 11-0

The Vancouver Whitecaps beat Sporting KC 2-1 in a CONCACAF Champions League game marred by a lengthy weather delay.

Players and coaches went to the dressing room in the 36th minute with severe lightning in the vicinity of Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City.

Vancouver came out the stronger team after the forced intermission when the teams returned to the field to restart the match. Erik Hurtado slotted home an Alphonso Davies' pass to give the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead at the shortened half-time break.

SKC came out strong in the second half, as Diego Rubio's right-footed shot from the right side of the box found the bottom left corner to put things back on level terms.

Davies turned scorer in second-half injury time to put the match away for Vancouver, picking up a Kyle Greig pass outside the penalty area and powering in the winner past Tim Melia.

The loss eliminates SKC from the CCL and ensures Vancouver will top Group C and advance to the knockout stages.

Hirving Lozano scored four goals as Pachuca obliterated Police United 11-0 in a Group E matchup.

Mexico international Lozano was on a hat trick before half-time as the Liga MX club extended its lead in the group with one more match to play.

Jose Esquivel and Ruben Botta added two goals each, putting Police United's CCL campaign to an end.

In the other match on Tuesday, Real Esteli and Suchitepequez played to a 1-1 draw.
