New York Red Bulls rally for draw with Alianza; Sporting KC, Central FC level

A long trip to El Salvador ended with a 1-1 draw for the New York Red Bulls versus Alianza FC in Group F of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Aaron Long's handball gifted Alianza a free kick in the 54th minute and Alexander Larin stepped up and shot past New York's Luis Robles to the top left corner to put the hosts in front.

The Red Bulls drew level in the 71st minute, though, when Justin Bilyeu headed a corner back in front of the goalmouth and Omer Damari lashed his right-footed shot in to make it 1-1.

Sporting Kansas City earned a point in its Group C opener of the CONCACAF Champions League, drawing 2-2 away to Central FC of Trinidad & Tobago.

SKC found its opener in the 51st minute on a somewhat strange sequence. A chipped ball into the Central penalty area was settled by SKC's Seth Sinovic whose shot coincided with a touch from a Central defender that sent the ball into the goal.

Central struck right back after the misfortune, though, as Marcus Joseph pounced on a loose ball after a scramble in front of the SKC goal and fired the rebound into the back of the net to level the score at 1-1.

Emboldened, Central poured forward on the counter-attack after the kickoff and Kenwyne Jones doubled his team's lead less than a minute later with a low line drive assisted by goalscorer Joseph.

Kevin Ellis struck back for the visitors, though, after Brad Davis opened up the Central defence with a nice diagonal pass and Ellis avoided Javon Sample in goal and powered his shot in for the equalizer.

With the game approaching full-time, Diego Rubin had a golden chance right in front of goal, but his effort was blocked away by Javon Sample.

Olimpia overwhelmed Police United of Belize 4-0 in a match that saw both teams finish with 10 men.

The hosts got a dream start in the second minute when Bayron Mendez fired home, with teammate Javier Estupinan doubling their lead before half-time.

With the game already out of hand, Olimpia's Michaell Chirinos added to second-half goals within minutes of each other to secure all three points in the Group E contest.
