Santos topple W Connection FC, D.C. United fight back for draw

Andres Renteria bagged the only goal of the game as Liga MX champions Santos Laguna overcame a resilient W Connection FC 1-0 in Port of Spain on Tuesday night.

Renteria stunned the Savonetta Boys, scoring his goal just two minutes after the opening whistle.

The win brings Santos level with Saprissa in Group A, while W Connection languish last with just three points from four games.

Meanwhile in Jamaica, Major League Soccer side D.C. United rallied from three goals down to draw 3-3 with hosts Montego Bay United.

Jermain Woozecroft opened the scoring after 26 minutes, before Jamaica international Dino Williams doubled Montego Bay's lead four minutes later.

Williams made it 3-0 from the penalty spot, but could not inspire the hosts to hold on as goals from Jairo Arrieta, Kofi Opare and Michael Farfan brought DCU back into the match.

"I'm very proud of our team and our guys for the resilience of coming back from a 3-0 deficit," said United assistant coach Chad Ashton told mlssoccer.com after the match.

"I think it's on me a little bit that they didn't show up ready to play and took things for granted the first half and really didn't know what hit them. "I think you have to give the other team a lot of credit; Montego Bay played very well, especially the first half they had us on our heels, and before we knew what hit us it was 2-0. So, a real credit to them for being very organized and taking the game to us."

In Tuesday's other match, Hankook Verdes defeated San Francisco 2-1.
