D.C. United passes tough Montego Bay United test, Santos loses

D.C. United passed a stiff test from Montego Bay United in the CONCACAF Champions League, with Conor Doyle and Kofi Opare scoring late second-half goals to help them win 3-0.

The Jamaican club was able to frustrate Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference leaders in the first half, holding them scoreless until the 37th minute when Miguel Aguilar opened the scoring. Michael Farfan assisted on the goal.

D.C. now have a firm grasp on the Group H lead, with second place Arabe Unido up next on the fixture list on Sept. 15.

Defending Liga MX Clausura champions Santos fell 2-1 to Costa Rican club Saprissa to take hold of the top spot in Group A.

Javier Orozco got Santos on the scoreboard first with a 20th-minute goal, but Saprissa came roaring back in the second half. Marvin Angulo and Nestor Araujo scored for the hosts in the win.

Municipal topped Santa Tecla by a final score of 2-1 at the Estadio Manuel Felipe Carrera in Guatemala City. Both teams finished with 10 players due to red cards.

Johnny Woodly Lambert started the scoring for the home side in the 20th minute and teammate Keilor Soto Vega was sent off in the 64th.

Carlos Ruiz hit the winner for the hosts in the 86th minute after Ricardinho Paraiba had drawn the Salvadoran club level four minutes earlier.
