The Colorado Rapids have acquired United States national team midfielder Jermaine Jones from the New England Revolution, the club announced on Friday night.
Per a Colorado press release, Jones moves in exchange for general allocation money and the Rapids' first-round pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. Targeted allocation money has been used on his contract and he will not occupy a Designated Player spot on his new team.

"Jermaine's record for club and country speaks for itself," Rapids technical director Paul Bravo said of the move. "He has the ability, versatility, experience and leadership skills to improve our young side. We are excited to have him join us in Colorado."
The 34-year-old Jones had been out of contract after spending the last one-and-a-half seasons with the New England Revolution.
In December he went public with his frustration about the Revs' contract offer that he said would pay him less then 20 percent of what he made last season. Then last month, Jones called the Revs' latest offer "a joke."
Jones had claimed previous offers from clubs in Germany and other countries, but any moves were made difficult by his pending six-game MLS suspension for coming in contact with referee Mark Geiger late in a playoff game last October.
Jones has made 56 appearances for the U.S. national team since 2010 and was a member of the national team's 2014 World Cup squad.
