Kevin Doyle becomes third designated player in Rapids history

The Colorado Rapids have announced the signing of Ireland international striker Kevin Doyle.

The former Wolverhampton man becomes just the third designated player in the Rapids' 20-year history. NYCFC, one of the league's newest expansion franchises, already has two.

"I am delighted and very excited to be moving to the Colorado Rapids," Doyle told the franchise's website.

"With so many great players moving to MLS to join up with the great American talent already there, it's a great time to play in this league.

The 31-year-old has spent considerable time in English football. Since joining Reading in 2005, Doyle has amassed 92 goals in 357 appearances.

Doyle joins fellow Irishman and current LA Galaxy star Robbie Keane in the league ranks.

"I know from talking to Robbie Keane that MLS is a great league to play in and I look forward to being another top Irish player there," he said.

The Rapids are next in action Saturday, when they host NYCFC.
