Colombia federation chief Luis Bedoya steps down

BOGOTA, Colombia -- The longtime head of Colombia's football federation has resigned

In a statement Monday the federation said Luis Bedoya is immediately stepping down from the position he's held since 2006 for personal reasons it didn't specify.

It's unclear if the resignation has anything to do with the bribery scandal that has swept through the South American Football Confederation. Bedoya has been vice president of the organization since 2013, but wasn't among the executives named in a U.S. Department of Justice probe in May.

However Colombian prosecutors have said they are investigating financial transactions by Bedoya and have requested information from U.S. authorities.

Bedoya has asserted innocence and has offered to cooperate with any investigation.
