Paul Cook has left Portsmouth to move to Wigan.

Wigan have announced the appointment of Portsmouth boss Paul Cook as their new manager.

Cook was given permission to talk to the Latics after they reached an agreement with Portsmouth over the weekend.

The 50-year-old, who had one year remaining on his contract with Pompey, has now signed a three-year contract at the club where he enjoyed two spells with as a player.

Wigan finished their single-season stay in the Sky Bet Championship with a 1-1 draw against Leeds at the DW Stadium.

The hosts edged in front inside six minutes as Ryan Tunnicliffe raced clear before rounding goalkeeper Rob Green and slotting into an empty net.

Leeds drew level within five minutes of the restart, with Chris Wood converting from the spot after Eunan O'Kane has been fouled inside the box.

Liverpool great Jamie Carragher's son joins Wigan Athletic academy

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher's son has signed for Wigan Athletic's academy.

James Carragher had joined Liverpool's academy as an under-8 in 2011 but has now moved on to Wigan, who were last week relegated to League One.

Carragher, 39, posted a picture of his son signing the deal on Instagram and wrote: "Proud of you son well done."

Reading secured a place in the Sky Bet Championship play-offs with a jittery 1-0 victory against Wigan at the Madejski Stadium.

The result also meant Wigan were relegated to League One after just one season in the second tier.

Reading went in front early on when leading marksman Yann Kermorgant nodded in his 17th goal of the campaign.
