Stuart Pearce
Stuart Pearce last held a managerial job at Nottingham Forest in 2015.

Wellington Phoenix have hosed down reports they are considering former England international Stuart Pearce as their new head coach.

The club released a short statement saying it is "flattered by the calibre" of some of the coaches linked to the vacant A-League position but won't comment on media speculation.

Chairman David Dome told Newstalk ZB the Phoenix had received a CV from the representatives...

Two superb goals from Brett Holman helped Brisbane overcome a two-goal deficit to beat Wellington Phoenix 4-3 and seal a home A-League final for the Roar.

Goals from Roy Krishna, Gui Finkler and Michael McGlinchey had Phoenix in control 3-1 at halftime but second-half strikes from Brandon Borello, Jamie Maclaren and Holman -- adding to his first-half strike -- gave the Roar victory in front of a crowd of 12,098 at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

Holman's first effort saw him take the ball just inside...

Shane Smeltz leaves Phoenix to join Indonesia's Pusamania Borneo FC

Wellington Phoenix have farewelled striker Shane Smeltz following his short second stint with the A-League club.

All Whites veteran Smeltz, 35, has signed with Indonesian club Pusamania Borneo FC as a marquee player.

A Phoenix foundation player, he returned midway through the current season and scored three goals in 12 appearances.

Once the seventh-placed club's hopes of making the playoffs finished on Saturday night, Smeltz asked club management to be released ahead of the final round.

He flew home...

A late Michael McGlinchey header earned Wellington Phoenix an unlikely 1-1 draw with A-League leaders Sydney FC at Westpac Stadium -- in a game which saw the video assistant referee (VAR) used for the first-ever time in a competitive fixture.

Wellington were pressure from the first whistle, Sydney shutting down them down in the midfield and creating plenty of early chances.

Left-back Michael Zullo featured in a couple of promising forays after 20 minutes, sending Alex Brosque clear to set up a...

Wellington Phoenix eye A-League upset over depleted Sydney FC

Wellington Phoenix were too strong for Melbourne Victory.
The Wellington Phoenix will be aiming to pull off an upset when they go up against Sydney FC.

Wellington Phoenix aim to capitalise on Sydney FC's controversial midfield absences as they attempt to pull off the upset of the A-League season in Saturday's home clash.

Phoenix co-coach Chris Greenacre has no real issue with Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold's ploy in asking Josh Brillante and Brandon O'Neill to pick up yellow cards last weekend.

But he says it's something he wouldn't do and now he hopes to take advantage as the desperate Phoenix try to inflict only the second defeat on Sydney FC...
