Western Sydney and Adelaide set for Spanish-themed A-League Grand Final

After a slow start to the season, Adelaide United are Premier Plate holders and have home advantage for the Grand Final against Western Sydney.

History will be made in the A-League this weekend as Adelaide United and Western Sydney Wanderers contest the Grand Final on Sunday. Neither team has won the championship before, but either would be a worthy winner.

Here are five things to keep an eye on as these two sides do battle one last time this season:

1. Wanderers' emotional high must be sustained

At 3-0 down after 23 minutes in their semifinal at home to Brisbane Roar, Western Sydney Wanderers' fans could scarcely believe what they were...

Wellington Phoenix 'disturbed' by FFA's Besart Berisha ban reduction

The Wellington Phoenix are "disturbed" by Football Federation Australia's handling of a disciplinary case against Melbourne Victory player Besart Berisha.

The A-League club has asked for an explanation about the process which saw Berisha's sanction following a red carding this month reduced.

The 30-year-old Albanian was penalised and later handed a two-game suspension for kicking out at Phoenix captain Andrew Durante while getting treatment during Victory's 4-1 win on April 2.

But FFA's disciplinary...

No excuses for Wellington Phoenix in next A-League campaign

Ernie Merrick and the Wellington Phoenix put a tumultuous season to bed on Sunday, with a 2-0 loss to finals-bound Western Sydney Wanderers at Westpac Stadium.

The defeat closed the book on a disappointing campaign for the Nix, finishing a lowly ninth in the 10-team competition. The future, however, already looks brighter for the New Zealand side, with experienced A-League winners Gui Finkler and Kosta Barbarouses already inked-in to join former Victory boss Ernie Merrick in Wellington next season.

Wanderers celebrate
The Western Sydney Wanderers celebrate with Brendon Santalab, far left, after the striker netted his second goal of the game.

Veteran striker Brendon Santalab's late-season goal rush has earned Western Sydney a 2-0 win over Wellington and a week's respite before the A-League semifinals.

The Wanderers hadn't won or scored in their last three trips to Westpac Stadium and had won just two of their past 18 away matches. Last time the two teams met, in mid-February, the Phoenix ran away with an impressive 5-2 victory.

But 33-year-old Santalab's second brace in the space of a week, both goals coming in the first half, gave Western...

Mooy back for Melbourne City as A-league enters penultimate weekend

The most exciting climax to an A-League season to date will reach the penultimate stage this week, with four teams -- and arguably a fifth -- still in with a genuine chance to claim the regular season title.

Which teams will come unstuck, and who will make a definitive stand in round 26? Here are five things to look out for:

1. Socceroos star returns to join title race

Having demonstrated that he is now one of the Australian national team's key figures, Aaron Mooy will return to club duties this...
