Wellington have roared into life in the A-League with a 5-0 win over Newcastle at Westpac Stadium -- despite missing players to international duty.

First-half goals from Kosta Barbarouses and Gui Finkler set up the win for the Phoenix. Matthew Ridenton added a third early in the second half before Jets defender Jason Hoffman completed a miserable return from a suspension with an inexplicable 66th minute own goal.

Roly Bonevacia put the icing on the cake for the hosts with the fifth goal, on...

Wellington Phoenix demand A-League relook during international breaks

Wellington celebrate Roy Krishna's goal.
The Wellington Phoenix will be without seven players due to the international break when they face the Newcastle Jets.

The Wellington Phoenix have run out of patience with Football Federation Australia (FFA), issuing a vigorous demand for an international window in the A-League.

In a strongly-worded statement, Phoenix general manager David Dome says the integrity of the competition is undermined by the FFA's refusal to budge on the issue.

The problem is highlighted again this Sunday when a Phoenix side missing seven key players -- six All Whites and Fijian Roy Krishna -- host the Newcastle Jets in a key fixture.

Buckingham slams Parkhouse for 'effectively' leaving Wellington short

Adam Parkhouse is in hot water with Wellington for under-reporting an illness co-coach Des Buckingham says effectively left his team with 10 men in Sunday's season-ending A-League loss to Western Sydney.

Left-back Parkhouse was repeatedly roasted by Wanderers flyer Jumpei Kusukami early in Sunday's 3-1 capitulation, allowing the hosts enough space on the flank to open the scoring within 10 minutes.

The 24-year-old was substituted for Tom Doyle after just 30 minutes, but Buckingham revealed there...

Western Sydney have finally broken their Spotless Stadium curse after five months and seven attempts.

The Wanderers disposed of a hapless Wellington 3-1 to mark their first win at their temporary home venue that had, until Sunday, hosted five draws and one loss.

There weren't many there to see it, but the season-low 7,828 crowd were rewarded with Brendon Santalab's 33rd and 34th goals for the club, which take the 34-year-old past Mark Bridge (32) as their all-time leading goal scorer.
