UCL: Roma see red and fall to Porto, Celtic hang on to reach group stage

Roma's Champions League campaign is over before it began, losing 3-0 to Porto and earning two red cards in the process.

Roma crashed out of the Champions League before the group stage following two more red cards in a 3-0 home defeat to Porto on Tuesday.

After Thomas Vermaelen had been sent off in the 1-1 first leg, Daniele De Rossi and Emerson followed in Rome as Porto advanced to the group stage.

Felipe opened the scoring in the eighth minute, heading in a free kick at the far post.

Fran Escriba named to coach Villarreal

Fran Escriba replaces Marcelino, a week before Villarreal's Champions League playoff round first-leg clash with Monaco.

Escriba replaces Marcelino, whose surprising departure was announced on Wednesday night just a week before the club's Champions League playoff round first-leg clash with Monaco.

Former Real Madrid and Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini had been linked with a return to El Madrigal -- having managed Villarreal to great success between 2004 and 2009 -- but the Yellow Submarine have turned to Escriba.
