David Beckham's expansion Inter Miami CF selected Clemson forward Robbie Robinson with the first overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft on Thursday.

Vancouver Whitecaps sign Canada's Lucas Cavallini for club-record fee

There will be a homecoming in Vancouver as Canadian forward Lucas Cavallini will join the Whitecaps on a transfer from Liga MX club Puebla.

According to the Whitecaps, Cavallini is being added on a "club-record transfer fee" which sources told ESPN is worth as much as $6 million, with Toronto native Cavallini agreeing to a three-year contract with an option for 2023.

The Vancouver Whitecaps have agreed terms with Puebla to secure the transfer of Canada international forward Lucas Cavallini, multiple sources have told ESPN.

A source close to the situation said that Cavallini has agreed to a four-year contract, with Puebla receiving a $6 million transfer fee, a record amount for the Whitecaps.

Another source told ESPN that Liga MX side Atlas were also in the mix for Cavallini, but that Puebla didn't want to sell the Canadian to a potential relegation rival....

Vancouver Whitecaps coach Marc Dos Santos has been fined for calling Major League Soccer "amateur."

The comments were made in an interview with The Athletic and were in reference to the length of offseason MLS has in comparison with other major divisions around the world.

"Players at the top level, they have three weeks, one month maximum, on break," Dos Santos said.

"I'm telling you, three months and a half of a break in a soccer season is ... It's amateur. It doesn't happen in the world."
